What are we doing in Vodudahue?
We seek to establish the bases to develop an integrated conservation strategy and a complete program of activities around the biodiversity of the area, focusing on its value and protection. We intend to show the potential of Vodudahue and turn it into a relevant research center worldwide.
What are we doing it for?
Our idea is to generate knowledge and methodologies to inform planning on issues of conservation, restoration, education, horticulture and other activities. We are interested in translating all the knowledge into formats that can be shared at different levels, and that can serve as a basis for future research and experiences with students, visitors and the community in general.
Our scientists team
Fundación Alerce 3000 in its VODUDAHUE project has made strategic alliances to have the best experts for each of its areas of development. In our science branch we have Fundación Chilco. Fundación Chilco is a non-profit organization that seeks to build and/or strengthen links between people and nature, in the context of the climate and environmental crisis, with a focus on the conservation and recovery of biodiversity.
We gathered a multidisciplinary team of scientists and collaborators to carry out a comprehensive biological inventory of Vodudahue, with a focus on vascular plants, bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts), lichens, birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates, and fungi.
We are developing a strategic plan for re-wilding and proposing formulas for monitoring the development of forests and grasslands, and long-term carbon storage, to address the scenario of climate change.
We are working on a reformulation of the nursery area to turn it, in the long term, into a botanical garden that pursues the objectives of research, conservation, education, and exhibition around the native flora of Vodudahue.

Through Fundación Chilco, we aim to generate momentum for the development of partnerships with scientists and institutions, including the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, Rainforest Concern-UK, the Knepp-Rewilding UK project, the Reñihué Foundation, and the Huinay Scientific Center, all focused on the native flora of Vodudahue.

One of the main objectives has been to initiate a long-term research on the biodiversity of the Vodudahue Reserve, recording species in different environments in order to have a first list or checklist, and eventually a prioritization of sub-areas for conservation and restoration.
